About Oophorectomy (Removal of the Ovary)
Oophorectomy is the surgical removal of the ovary and is considered in cases such as suspicious masses, advanced endometriosis, recurrent cysts, or genetic risk. When making the decision, the patient's age, desire for fertility, and the condition of the opposite ovary are evaluated together; preserving ovarian tissue is aimed for whenever possible. Removal of both ovaries before menopause leads to hormonal changes, and management of this situation is planned before surgery. The procedure is mostly performed laparoscopically. The removed tissue is sent for pathological examination, and follow-up is continued based on the results.
