About Gestational Diabetes Monitoring During Pregnancy
Gestational diabetes is the elevation of blood sugar due to hormonal changes related to pregnancy and is usually detected with the glucose tolerance test performed between the twenty-fourth and twenty-eighth weeks. Upon diagnosis, the first step involves dietary regulation, regular physical activity, and home blood sugar monitoring; some expectant mothers may require medication or insulin. Well-managed gestational diabetes reduces the likelihood of complications such as large babies and difficult labor. During follow-up, the baby's growth is monitored more frequently with ultrasound. After delivery, it is also checked whether blood sugar levels have returned to normal.
