About Second Level (Detailed) Ultrasonography
Second-level ultrasound is an evaluation in which the baby's brain, heart, kidneys, spine, abdominal wall, and extremities are examined sequentially and in detail. It is usually performed between the eighteenth and twenty-third weeks; during this period, the organs are sufficiently developed, and the baby's position is suitable for examination. During the scan, the placenta, umbilical cord, amniotic fluid, and cervical length are also assessed. A detailed ultrasound does not guarantee the detection of every anomaly; some findings may appear in later weeks or may be limited due to imaging conditions. The results are interpreted together with the pregnancy history and screening tests.
