About Nonstress Test (NST)
The nonstress test records the baby's heart rate response to movements and any uterine contractions using two probes placed on the abdomen. It is generally performed after the thirty-second week of pregnancy, earlier if a decrease in fetal movements is noticed or in high-risk pregnancies. The procedure is painless, does not involve radiation, and takes about twenty minutes. The results are interpreted not in isolation but together with the gestational age, ultrasound findings, and the mother's complaints. If deemed necessary, the test may be repeated or additional examinations may be requested.
