About Colposcopy and Cervical Biopsy
Colposcopy is an examination in which the cervix is closely inspected using a special magnifying system. It is performed when there is an abnormal smear result, persistent HPV positivity, or a suspicious appearance detected during the examination. Solutions applied during the procedure help highlight suspicious areas; if necessary, small tissue samples are taken during the same session. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis, lasts a few minutes, and usually causes no discomfort other than a mild cramping sensation. The biopsy results are evaluated together with smear and HPV findings to decide on follow-up or treatment.
